Esma came to vienna as the starting act of the Balkan Fever Festival.
The concert took place in the Podium of the Akzent Theater, a location that reminds me of school concerts and hospital sanitary rooms at the same time. Even the queen of the gypsies with her powerful voice and abunding appearence had difficulties to create the joyful lively athmosphere that normally surrounds her music. But finally music won and people danced – once they had stood up anyway for giving the Piaf of the gipsies standing ovations….
